The first phase of a major regeneration project at the Montagu Industrial Estate in Enfield has received planning permission.
Property developer Henry Boot Developments (HBD) is on course to deliver the 27-acre scheme named EN406, which is a joint venture with Enfield Council.
The estate is a key industrial area within the borough, moments away from the A406. The aim is to revive the site to create a new modern business space to help with job creation.
Phase one of the scheme will offer eight high-quality, modern, industrial and warehouse units with offices.
Ranging from 3,500sq ft to 8,374sq ft, the new build units are considered ideal for SMEs. Construction is due to begin in 2020 and the units will be available in early 2021.
Harry Bunbury, director at HBD, said: “While this first phase focuses on providing small units for SMEs, future phases will also include larger premises, creating a thriving location for businesses of all sizes and in turn strengthening the local economy in Enfield.”
Enfield Council leader, Councillor Nesil Caliskan, said industrial and logistics businesses in the borough play a “significant part” in the economy. She added: “Creating new space for these sectors to grow, whilst improving land use efficiency and broadening the range and quality of jobs for local residents, is a council priority.
“The redevelopment of the Montagu Industrial Estate will provide buildings to meet the demands of modern businesses, which will help maximise employment opportunities for local people as well as providing income from the council.
“Enfield Council is committed to supporting industry in the borough to ensure economic growth and a wider range of quality jobs for local people.”
Nick Diment, planning partner at Knight Frank, which advised HBD on planning, said: “Getting the green light for this major redevelopment will bring substantial economic benefits to the area.”
