Enfield Council's scheme to build affordable, small-scale home developments won a top planning award in May.
The authority's 'Small Sites' programme was awarded the 'Excellence in Planning for Homes – Small Schemes' prize at the annual RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence on 21 May, which recognises teams, projects and people working to transform economies, environments and communities throughout the UK and internationally.
The 100% affordable housing scheme at Ordnance Road which was completed in early 2018 came in for particular praise. The judges commented: "We were impressed with the council’s proactive approach to delivering affordable housing on previously developed, difficult to develop land in their authority.
"The planners were central to this project, from using planning policy to identify the sites for development through to understanding the kind of housing the community wanted to resolving some of the design issues. As a result, the project has strong local support."
